I had surgery to repair a perforated eardrum, and the staff made the experience as smooth and pleasant as possible. I did have rather a long day at the hospital as ended towards the end of the surgery list, though that meant I got to see the very good aftercare for the other patients in my bay and got a better idea of how long I would be there after surgery (the team like to keep patients for 4 hours to ensure sufficient recovery from the procedure. The team kept me up to date while I was waiting, and once I was in for the anesthetic, the team were amazing, talking me through everything, reassuring me etc. Once I was in recovery, the team promptly let my husband know. When I woke up, after maybe half an hour I was able to eat some rather lovely macaroni cheese. (And a chocolate moouse a little later). I was allowed home at about half 8 and sent home with an aftercare package. The only slight niggle was perhaps down to a little miscommunication. Recovery time is 1 to 2 weeks, and during the pre op procedure the month before, I was reminded to get my sick note before I left hospital. When I asked for this, it turned out I should have asked for a sick note in advance, but this has been posted to me. Overall though, a good experience. I really value our NHS.
"What a team!"
