"Fantastic Care at Warwick Hospital"

About: Warwick Hospital

I was emergency admitted to hospital by my GP for gastro pain on Friday morning on the 5th of April, which was later diagnosed as bile duct stones, gallstones and jaundice. I went into hospital via A&E, where I was assessed and triarged into the hospital, they could see that I was in a lot of pain and gave me pain killers to make me more comfortable, they were very efficient and compassionate, and professional. They then passed me onto the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU), which the on call registrar had reserved a bed for me, after a call from my GP.

I have to say the care was outstanding and the nurses and staff were brilliant, they assessed me, did all of the relevant checks and made me ready to be admitted to the surgical ward that evening. They explained everything to me, gave me pain relief and made sure that I was as comfortable as I could be. They also explained all of the possible issues to me and my wife, and that they were trying to understand what the problems were.

The Willoughby ward cared for me for the next six days. I had various scans starting on the Saturday afternoon and and then through to an MRI on the following Monday, this was to confirm the problems. I then had a procedure to clear the blockages on the Tuesday, the gastro consultant who did the procedure took me through the scans to show the issues and explained everything to me, and what they were going to do to sort the issue. I then went back to the Willoughby ward to recover for the next day or so until my release home.

From minute one entering the hospital, to the moment I left, the care was outstanding, compassionate staff who totally looked after every need, the ward staff on both willoughby and SAU were exceptional, as was the consultant.

A special mention to the support staff on Willoughby ward who did everything for me, both reassuring me, making me feel better by being so engaging and caring, I cannot say enough good things about them, especially the nurses and the ward support staff, they work so hard and were fantastic during my whole time in hospital, changing beds, feeding patients, washing and dressing people.

Your staff are an absolute credit to the NHS, thank you for everything! I am now on the list for an operation to remove my gallbladder, I am now a lot less worried about having this operation done at Warwick Hospital after this experience.
