"Recent appointment seemed to be different from the others"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

I have been having eye injections for Macular Degeneration for the past few years now. One of the more recent appointments I had seemed to be different from the others.

The clinician seemed to be in a hurry and didn't seem to do a lot of the things that had previously been done. They didn't seem to use enough anaesthetic as it hurt a great deal. They seemed a bit impatient at my reaction to the pain.

I'm sorry to hear your injection felt rushed - we have recently increased our clinic capacity for each injection session to meet the patient demand for the injection service. This will help us to deliver your injection treatments without delay in the future in the required time frame to optimise your treatment outcomes.

It is not unusual to experience discomfort from your injection procedure with the use of anesthetic drops, in most cases the anesthetic drops help to alleviate the discomfort, however this is not always the case. We would encourage you to let us know if the procedure is too uncomfortable to continue.
