"I felt supported, engaged and encouraged"

About: Bideford Hospital / Therapies

(as the patient),

I recently attended an Appointment at Bideford Specialist Physiotherapy, the problem being my left Knee and its deterioration over the last 2 - 3 years. The attending Specialist Physiotherapist was Laura, whom was accompanied by a student Physiotherapist..

The student asked my permission to take a medical history, after identifying who I was.

The student took the lead with Laura supervising and intervening appropriately.

They both evidenced empathy and understanding, and the history taken was very detailed with checks on my diagnoses and various medication.

This was a very constructive appointment with focus on ways to help me cope with the deteriorating knee problem and with intention to try and strengthen all muscles surrounding the Knee and right upper leg which was obviously weaker.

The patient/ therapist relationship progressed well, information exchange both parties. I felt supported, engaged and encouraged.

Dear Francis182,

Thank you for sharing with us your positive story of the recent physiotherapy treatment you received in Bideford hospital.

I will be very happy to share these kind comments with Laura and her physiotherapy student. Feedback such as this is lovely to receive and pass on.

I am sorry to hear that your left knee has been deteriorating over the last 2-3 years but pleased to hear that you felt engaged, supported and encouraged to continue with your strengthening exercise program. I wish you all the very best for the future.

Best wishes

Liz Richards

Therapy Service Manager
