As an A&E Sunday admission with complications from highly successful Hip/Spinal related surgery in a London teaching hospital (on the previous Wednesday). The Royal Surrey Orthopaedic team (from consultant at the top to the Junior doctors at the bottom) dealt with the case with commendable and patient reassuring , skill , professionalism and clinical judgement.
Their approach and decisions could and cannot be faulted. They were also proved to be sound by the end result. An excruciatingly painful gastric flare up was speedily dealt with and a 7 day discharge resulted on the following Wednesday. A stabilised patient left ready for his continuing hip/spinal care elsewhere -completely pain free. Of particular importance was the fact that the cautious discharge time scale adopted allowed , inter alia, less usual , potentially causative factors , to be suggested , investigated and isolated. This has the potential of great value to the patients final outcome.
