At the beginning of the year I suffered a mental breakdown. I felt very unwell, very alone and completely isolated.
My doctor was so very supportive and recommended I seen a lady from the mental health occupational therapy service and a male mental health nurse along with medication.
It was nerve wracking for me to speak about my issues but both the OT lady and Mental health nurse were so warm, kind and welcoming. They have and are an invaluable and irreplaceable support to me during a very difficult stage in my life.
They continue to support me giving me techniques to cope, a safe space to speak without any judgement and can also help to point out my thinking or perception. Or lack of at times.
They never rush me but I can see that they are so very busy and stretched. They desperately try to slot me in because so many people need their help and support.
I think perhaps we are limited to how many times we can be seen due to this.
I would ask that this be looked at. I feel we could do with more OT/mental health support and people should be able to attend for as long as they need to and the professionals shouldn’t be under any sort of pressure.
It’s been a lifesaver for me and I’m sure lots of other people too.
