"I can't praise the whole team enough"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Endoscopy

(as a service user),

As a child abuse survivor I find invasive/intimate procedures extremely traumatising. The lead up to the appointment is dotted with nightmares and unwanted memories. From the second I arrived in the ward I was put at ease, looked after, and every effort to alleviate my anxiety was taken.

My staff nurse, Julie, was so kind and understanding and inserted the cannula for my sedative so expertly I didn’t feel it at all. The wait for my turn was difficult but I was spoken to and checked on , and kept informed of when I could expect to be taken. The male endoscopist, Dr Miller took time to talk to me, put my mind at ease and explain everything. He also apologised in advance in case he started singing! He administered the sedation and painkillers and then as I relaxed he started the procedure.

I can’t praise the whole team enough - if anyone reading this feels scared or anxious please be assured - if you inform them of any issues you may have then the very kindest, and best care is given by everyone from the minute you get there until you walk out at the end.
