"We both had such a positive experience"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Speech and Language Therapy

(as a parent/guardian),

My son attended his first speech therapy appointment after being on the waiting list for 18 months.

As soon as the speech therapist Linzi called us through, she instantly made my son feel at ease by pointing out his Spider-Man shoes and starting a conversation with him about them.

I could see the relief from my son’s face during this interaction, as he felt able to open up and discuss his interests. This small interaction meant so much to both him and myself.

Throughout the session, Linzi was so patient and kind, allowing my son to express himself freely, and showing positive reinforcement. It was clear she had such a way with children and is definitely in the right profession!

As well as this she was so reassuring towards myself as a parent, encouraging me to continue to model his language and reassuring me that I’m doing brilliantly to support him.

I had no idea what to expect as I’ve never attended a speech therapy session before and I was anxious to how my son would react. But we both had such a positive experience and my son is really looking forward to his next session.

Thank you so much Linzi.

Thank you so much for coming on to Care Opinion and leaving this super feedback for Linzi. I'll be so happy to pass it on to her and the rest of the SLT team.

I agree with you - Linzi is great and definitely has all the qualities needed for a Speech and Language Therapist - those little things like noticing your son's Spider-Man shoes make all the difference! It's lovely that you saw this and realised the impact that had on him - well done Mum!

I'm so pleased to read about how Linzi interacted with your son and how you both felt supported in the session and in what you could do afterwards. This is exactly what we aim for and Linzi has been brilliant in doing that.

It's so nice to hear of this positive start to your time with us in Speech and Language Therapy and best wishes to you and your son in the future.
