Overall verdict - Outstanding
After my experience I was motivated to find a comments forum where I could pass on my Deanesly Unit experience to others so here goes.
I'll start with the telephone as that was my first point of contact with Unit C35 on the first floor. Caring, considerate and professional throughout.
Communication - On the phone they always had enough time for you, authenticated your identity and were open and honest while respecting patient confidentiality.
While waiting for access to the ward at visiting time I heard a more senior nurse passing on/explaining a technique to other members of the team showing commitment to ongoing training and improvement. How a good team works.
Staff were friendly and caring and not just to the patients. They obviously knew their patients.
They had clearly explained a treatment path to my relative undergoing the treatment, had managed the expectations and had succeeded in changing the belief from 'I'm going to a hospice' to 'after treatment here I could go home'.
Planning - from meals where during the afternoon a nurse asked what each patient would like for dinner, to the chemo / radio schedule, it appeared that there was a plan that everyone understood and it was well organised.
The meals appeared nutritious and to be 'made' as opposed to be bought in.
The ward looked new and was very clean and a partially open window provided fresh air.
I may be singing their praises at the moment but it's what the Unit deserves based on my experience recently.
You don't want to have a relative needing radiotherapy and chemotherapy but if they need it they could get excellent treatment here.
"Absolutely wonderful"
