"A fall on Easter Sunday"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

My 10 year old daughter fell on Easter Sunday and hurt her left arm.

NHS 111 were fabulous, arranged a lovely sympathetic nurse to call back who booked us in to the Edinburgh sick kids for an x-ray. A&E was very busy but the staff were calm and organised. The ANP took us to a side room in the waiting area to assess her to get us into x-ray quicker as the main triage rooms were full.

She was so gentle and thorough and kind to my daughter and explained that the x-ray showed a double greenstick and that a soft cast was needed for 4 weeks with no sport for 6. Giving her an Easter egg to cheer her up was a lovely touch. Thanks to the lovely ANP nurse who had just started her shift, the man who put on the soft cast and the rest of the A&E and nhs24 staff. You are all amazing.

Thanks also to those who donated Easter eggs to cheer the A&E children up. I will certainly make it my priority donation next year.

Dear branff69,

I am sorry to hear your daughter hurt her arm after her fall on Easter Sunday. I hope it has healed well.

I am the Clinical Nurse Manager for our Paediatric Emergency Department. I am pleased to hear that despite the department being busy the staff were calm and organised and you were able to have an xray arranged quicker by our ANP.

Personally I find chocolate makes everything better so I am glad an easter egg helped with the news of not being able to do sport for 4-6 weeks.

I have shared this story, along with my thanks, to our whole ED team as they love to hear patient's stories and feedback. Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience.

Can I firstly share, that I absolutely agree regarding the Easter egg, that was a lovely touch by the Children’s Hospital and I’m sure it helped cheer your daughter up during a very stressful time.

I reply on behalf of NHS 24 and I am pleased to hear of your daughter’s positive patient journey and extremely delighted to learn NHS 24 were involved in this positive experience.
