"Above and beyond care"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

We were referred by our district cardiac nurse with concerns of reflux with our baby daughter. Upon arrival at ward 32 it soon became apparent that the root cause was complications with her heart after her recent surgery. Unable to be transferred to the cardiac ward at Leeds the nurses and doctors were absolutely world class during a 6 day stay before getting transferred to Leeds. They were dealing with a situation that required specific knowledge and attention. It brings me to tears thinking of the effort that individual nurses went to. At times it was organised for there to be one nurse in sole care of our daughter. At other times there were multiple nurses in our room helping out. The doctors were unbelievably compassionate and parent centred throughout - conferring with her consultants ongoing and relaying any information immediately. These words fall short in extending my gratitude appropriately. It was a very tense and traumatic time for me and her mother and I cannot ever repay the debt of the care we received during this experience. Our district cardiac nurse even came to spend time with us during our stay. Thank you so much. We continue to receive world class care for our daughter who only stands a chance thanks to the care of the NHS. You don’t know you need this care until you need it and when you do - it is there.

Hi my name is Catherine and part of my role is responding to posts on Care Opinion.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on your experience on ward 32 following your daughters admission.

It is great to hear that you found the nurses and doctors were world class during your daughters 6 day stay before being transferred to Leeds. You found the doctors to be compassionate and parent centred throughout, and the individual nurses went to great effort to provide the best care for your daughter.

This must have been an extremely worrying time for you both and I would like pass on our best wishes for your daughter.

Thank you again for your feedback, this will be shared with all the staff of ward 32 and will be very much appreciated.

As a Trust we strive to provide a high level of care and patient well being and value all feedback, positive or negative, as a way to drive improvements to our services.

Kind regards

Catherine Healy
