"They provide "first class" service"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre / Haematology Ambulatory Care Service

(as a service user),

Having recently being diagnosed with AML I have been receiving Chemotherapy as an in patient.

During breaks between Chemo I have been allowed home while being supported by the Ambulatory care dept.

The dept. looks to be a real asset by providing support to the running of the unit and allowing patients to have valuable time at home that otherwise might not be possible without the support Ambulatory care provide.

The staff in the department have been excellent in communicating what support I will require, when I require it and why it is necessary. They have also been available to answer any relevant questions I have had.

The lay out and running of the unit looks to be run very efficiently with regular cleaning to maintain hygiene standards and "admin duties" dealt with by the small team.

Like other depts. within the Beatson unit they provide "first class" service.

I imagine patients like myself would not have as much valuable time at home without such a well run department like Ambulatory care providing this support.

Dear RDO1475,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your positive feedback about our Ambulatory Care Service in the Beatson. I was sorry to learn of your recent diagnosis and subsequent treatment. The Ambulatory Care area is an important development in enabling patients to receive their treatment in a day unit environment and reduce the time spent in hospital.

The team within the nurse led unit will be very pleased to hear of your experience and that by reducing time in hospital you can spend more time with your family.

Thank you again for this post which I will share with my appreciation with the team.

Kind Regards

Elaine Burt

Chief Nurse Regional Services
