I had a cataract removed last year, and after having waited 5 years I went privately to have it done. The removal went well with no problems. However, I had to go back to have laser surgery at Altnagelvin with the eye consultant, Dr. Cartmill, as the private clinic that removed the cataract originally didn't do laser surgery.
Dr. Cartmill was excellent, he asked me if I had questions as I didn't realise that you could have laser surgery after having a cataract removed; I wasn't told this before. He explained everything and reassured me.
In 2017 I had a total knee replacement done privately on the right knee. 2 years later, I experienced swelling, but the private consultant didn't want to know because the surgery went perfectly.
So, I went to see the Orthopaedic consultant Mr. McCormick at Altnagelvin and he was excellent. He then retired so I saw Mr. Acton and he was very, very good. He then referred me to the consultant anaesthetist in pain management, Mr. Symington, who was excellent.
I am still attending appointments with them, and Mr. Symington has 2 nurses who call me to check how I am doing. I can't fault any of them, they were brilliant, very very good.
My only issue is with the waiting times at Altnagelvin which is why I had to go privately.
"I can't fault any of them"
