During a private pregnancy scan on a Friday afternoon, I was informed I had a silent miscarriage at almost 10 weeks.
I had to wait until Monday morning to make contact with the Early Pregnancy Unit in CAH. The receptionist was great, she allocated me an appointment just a few hours later.
My husband and I met Dr Murphy, who was so kind and sympathetic. She took her time to explain what had happened and what our options were. She gave us information on charities and support. But she also reassured us that everything would be OK. She discussed the different methods of management, of which we chose surgical. It was the worst day of my life but Dr Murphy made it somewhat more bearable. She helped me to make a fully informed decision on what to do next.
I had surgery the following morning. Everything went very smoothly and I felt I was taken care of very professionally yet sensitively.
I have nothing but praise for the team in the EPU. I could see how busy they were and how well the handled everyone's issues.
However I felt the EPU had a misleading voicemail message which stated that their lines are busy, try again later. I think this is completely incorrect outside the hours or 9-5pm Monday- friday and should simply state that they are closed over the weekend and to contact on Monday.
