"The midwives were excellent"

About: Community midwifery care / South Belfast Maternity care / Post-Natal wards (E and Johnston house)

(as a service user),

I received such good care during my pregnancy, delivery and postnatal care last year from BHSCT.  In particular the midwives undertaking my booking scan and appointment were excellent; very friendly, thorough and helpful.  The sonographer who completed the anomaly scan was also really good at providing information and explaining what he was doing to avoid any concerns or worries for example showing us the heartbeat straight away.  I attended the maternity assessment unit multiple times for various concerns and despite the pressures the team there was always really helpful in assessing and addressing concerns.

The midwives Olivia and Lisa who cared for me, my partner and our baby in labour and delivery were excellent.  They were competent and communicated really well and were very supportive.  It would have been such a different experience without them.  They made us feel cared for and safe.

On the postnatal ward the midwives were very helpful in supporting breastfeeding and checking on us.  Once back home the community midwives were fantastic in caring for me and checking on the baby.  Sharon in particular was really great and having a service where health professionals come to you at home is so valued.  Knowing they were coming to see us was a bit of a lifeline in those early days.
