I am 85 and have very swollen legs due to water retention and an ulcer on the right which needed regular dressing. My daughters were taking me to the surgery for this 2-3 times a week. This was exhausting as I have COPD. Also being recently diagnosed with diabetes I also had to visit the optician and the podiatrist as well as having to visit the hospital for an endoscopy, all in the same week.
We managed to get in touch with the Community Response team and they (Ali in a red uniform and Tony in a grey uniform) came out immediately and arranged for a nurse to visit the next day. She changed my dressing and arranged for further visits. A few days later I was referred to KMH with a suspected DVT. I came out of hospital on Friday and rang the district nurse service on Monday, spoke to a very helpful receptionist, explained that I wanted to resume the home visits. A nurse rang me back within 10 minutes and arranged a visit for the next day. Job done!
Very efficient, delighted.
