"We found the care excellent"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Pharmacy Royal Alexandra Hospital / Radiology Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My mum recently became really unwell with abdo pain and I had to phone an emergency ambulance. She was taken to the ED at the RAH and then admitted through the surgical assessment unit into ward 20 and eventually into ward 29.

You hear of so many people complaining about the RAH that we wanted to say that we found the care excellent.

From the paramedics (Carol and Tracy ) to all of the staff in Emergency Department/porters/ x-ray department and ward staff were all lovely and so supportive.

My mum found her consultant, Ms Gray, very informative and reassuring .

All tests were done in a timely manner and she was diagnosed and treatment was started within hours

This made a scary time much easier to cope with for my mum.

We would like to say thank you to all the staff. My mum was very impressed by the pharmacist that visited the ward (Ward 29 ) and would like to say a special thank you to him (she can't remember his name).

The only negative thing my mum found was a lack of communication between some of the medical staff, as one doctor would give her information which was then contradicted by the next visiting doctor although her consultant was always consistent and clear.

She is coming back in to RAH for further treatment soon and this recent visit has made her less anxious about attending the RAH again due to her recent level of care.

Dear Bette37

Thank you so much for taking the time to reflect on yours and your Mum's experience of the RAH.

On behalf of the ED team, I thank you. I will ensure to share your post with all staff involved who I am sure will be delighted. Capturing the whole team is truly appreciated as this is what enables us to do our jobs well. The attending Pharmacist and Ms Gray's team (whom I'm confident will pick up on the negative communication component) will get a specific shout.

Thanks also for highlighting your Mum being less anxious about attending our hospital, as it can be pretty frightening experience.

Wishing you and your Mum all the best.

Gerry
