"Not impressed"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was sent to A&E from the Urgent Care Centre after having suspected atypical pneumonia and an elevated clotting blood test. Been here from 3pm - now 12am and haven’t seen a doctor.

Not impressed as I’ve been via the GP from 10am to Urgent Care at 11:30am and now still awaiting treatment over 12 hours later.

I am very sorry to hear you have waited so long in the emergency department. The triage nurse should have given you an estimate for the waiting time to see a Doctor. Unfortunately the waiting times in emergency departments is too long. The main reason for long waiting times is that emergency departments are overcrowded with significant numbers (50-60) of patients waiting on inpatient admission beds. This significantly reduces the departments capacity to see new patients and requires nursing staff to be split between new patients and delayed admissions. The Trust is working with the regional commissioners to undertake improvements to patient flow through emergency departments. This remains a significant challenge. I hope you did get assessed and treated after waiting such a long time.
