"Good and not so good"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Clinical assessment unit

(as a relative),

Attended at the Clinical Assessment Unit with my wife after being referred by her GP. Medical staff, nurses, consultants are excellent and throughout our stay were friendly, professional and appeared to genuinely care putting my wife at ease. They are a credit to the hospital.

We spent a lot of time in the waiting room which didn't really bother us however it gave us time to notice things that could be improved around the reception team in particular.

Both windows are practically fully blocked by computer screens and admin trays being placed directly in the eye line of the patient attending and one of them has a poster on the screen above a phone to be used, I assume, out of hours when no one is on reception.

It's not very welcoming for anyone attending and we saw one patient in a wheelchair who couldn't see the reception staff say they couldn't stand up to be answered by the staff member, who remained seated throughout this reply - it's okay, I can hear you. This went on all day with various people attending and not noticing if anyone was on the desk due to the screens blocking their view.

Simple fix, move the computers to be side on, remove the clutter on the reception desk and reposition the poster to provide a better welcome and first impression.

Dear Joe917

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent visit of our clinical assessment unit. I am glad that your experience of the care and treatment you and your wife received was a positive one. I will ensure that this is fedback to our teams, and will be hugely appreciated during the busy time we are experiencing.

With regards your feedback of our reception area, I will speak with our reception team and make the changes you have suggested. I agree that this will make to a more welcoming impression.

Once again, can I thank you and your wife for the feedback. It really does make a difference. I hope your wife is recovering well.

Best wishes

Pamela
