"Car Parking over charge"

About: East Surrey Hospital

(as a carer),

I visited my father in hospital in March and paid for parking.

I returned 4 days later just after 3pm and left just after 5.30pm and so was expecting to be charged the same amount as before. However, when I went to pay I was asked to pay over £100! The system must have thought I hadn't left after the first visit and that I'd been in the car park since then!

There was no help available and nothing happened when I pressed the 'help' button on the screen so I had no alternative but to pay the amount.

When I then got to the barrier the sign said I hadn't paid and refused my exit!

I pressed the help button on the post by the exit barrier and eventually got someone to help open the barrier, although they were shocked I had actually paid the money. But as I explained, there was no such button/help available at the machines in the hospital.

I subsequently attached confirmation of money paid on the first visit and photo of receipt for the second visit as requested, but have not had a single reply from numerous phone calls and emails.

Happy to pay the usual parking charge for the day's visit but am still seeking reimbursement for rest.

I am very sorry to hear about your experience not only when trying to pay and leave the car park but also when contacting the hospital car parking department.

The patient experience team would be happy to follow this up for you. Can you please send us an email at sash.experience@nhs.net with your details and we will see what we can do to help.
