My son injured himself at a gymnastics competition at Ravenscraig and we were advised by the medic there to attend hospital for xray and assessment as it was a suspected broken bone.
My son was very upset on arrival at the hospital as it meant missing the medal ceremony at the competition as he would have been presented with one.
Once we were through to the MIU the staff could not have been nicer. There was one particular member who went over and above to be kind. She was reassuring, patient, friendly, but mostly made my son feel very important.
She was thorough with her assessment and talked us through everything. Nothing was a problem for her and she had the most amazing bedside manner. I feel terrible that I can’t remember her name but she had short blonde hair and a lovely smile.
She had a male colleague who also assessed my son with the same fantastic manner. He too was very kind and reassuring.
They made us feel at ease and took the worry out of waiting.
Once it had been established what the injury was, we were given a plan of action for aftercare and given advice on how best to manage it.
Lastly, the staff had a little medal ceremony for my son to make him feel special and that he had not missed out. This small act of kindness went a long way to making a young upset boy very happy. It was hugely appreciated by us.
Our overall experience was an extremely positive one. Everyone was beyond kind and for that we are most grateful.
"Small act of kindness went a long way"
