My husband was diagnosed recently with nasopharyngeal cancer, a tumour between the back of his nose and the top of his throat. Within 5 and a half weeks he had had several scans and biopsies and began chemotherapy. Because you can't operate on these tumours it requires radical Chemotherapy/Radiotherapy treatment. We honestly can't complain at the speed which everything has been dealt with since his diagnosis.
He had been on the waiting list for audiology for over a year when it turned out that the deafness he was experiencing was a symptom of his tumour - but it is a rare tumour where the symptoms on their own don't really indicate anything serious going on so I don't necessarily think the waiting list delayed his treatment but we'll never know. It was only when he had several more symptoms showing that alarm bells started ringing. The positive thing is that it is a cancer which has curative treatment, he's got a lot of tough months ahead of him but hopefully at the end of it he will be on the road to recovery.
We are both full of admiration for all the treatment so far at both the QEUH in Glasgow and The Beatson Oncology unit at Gartnavel General Hospital, also in Glasgow, all staff and facilities have been amazing so far.
