"Praise to all"

About: Brighton & Hove City Council - Ireland Lodge

My dad (89)went into care with fractured ribs after a fall and a weight loss of 2.5 stone after carers at home didn`t work. There cared for him tirelessly and his weight increased. He used to shout at night and was very scared and they had to reassure him constantly. It went through the D.o.ls process which took over 1 year for it to be decided that he couldn`t cope at home. As his son I found this very stressful and the money/time could have been better spent elsewhere as after 2 months in care it was obvious he would never cope at home again. Over the time he became settled there and then became scared of going home. It wasn`t until the decision had been made for him to stay there permanently could I tell him that he would be looked after there and wouldn`t have to struggle at home. He probably wasn`t the easiest to get on with (especially in the early days) but they persevered to get him washed and changed, which he struggled with. Unfortunately on the 13th March this year my dad passed away. This was heart failure and everyone who I spoke to from the home treated me with the utmost respect. One of the carers came to my dad`s funeral yesterday and we spent a few hours chatting, which was really nice.

I cannot thank the staff at the Lodge enough for looking after my dad, in the way they did and supporting me along the way. Everyone talks about the nurses and doctors that do a great job (and they do) but the staff there are my unsung heroes!!

They are worth their weight in gold and what they do on a daily basis is certainly not easy but really makes a difference to everyone involved. It makes me sad/angry that the staff are not recognised in the way they should be! People are happy to judge without knowing the facts and very few will praise where it is due.

Thank you to everyone at Ireland Lodge for everything that you done for me but especially for my dad.

Please can you make sure that the staff see this feedback
