Last week my daughter attended her camhs appointment with her psychiatrist Dr Novac. As she has attended camhs for over 3 years she has a positive relationship with Dr Novac. In the appointment Dr Novac listened to my autistic daughters complex issues with food and mental illness. Dr Novac showed empathy and understanding towards my daughter and I, whilst offering a path towards recovery. As a mother I felt my daughters issues were taken seriously and considered in a holistic manner.
The support of our Camhs social worker Anne has been a lifeline to my family given my daughters mental illness, coupled with her Autism and eating problems. We have required camhs, Autism services, Eating disorder service and Education Authority (AAIS) to work together to keep my child safe and understood. Im so relieved it is working for us, as these intertwined issues seem insurmountable at times and I hear of so many times where children fall between services.
We need camhs to help us make sense of my daughters needs and how to best keep her safe.
