"Great holiday Monday dental care"

About: Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Emergency Dental Treatment Centre Level 1 NHS 24 / Scottish Emergency Dental Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My 7 year old had bad toothache so I phoned 111 late morning on Easter Monday. My call was answered after about 20 minutes which I thought was pretty good on a holiday Monday. The call handler was thorough and pleasant. I was told they'd aim to have a dental nurse phone me within 3 hours. The nurse called after 55 minutes and agreed to arrange an appointment at the Glasgow Dental Hospital. I had a call 5 minutes later giving us an appointment that afternoon.

We arrived and were seen bang on time by dentist Paul with nurse Karen. They were pleasant, professional and thorough. An x-ray was done and results explained to us.

We were very impressed with the NHS care from start to finish. Thank you very much to everyone.

Dear FioC

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion.

I am glad to hear that all services worked well and your child received the treatment required at the Dental Hospital.

I respond in relation to your contact with 111. If you wish to share some more information with me, then I could identify the staff who managed your call and share your Care Opinion story with them. We always like to ensure that staff see positive feedback to reinforce for them how valued their care is when people call our services. You can contact me by email at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I hope your child is now recovering well.

Thank you again for sharing your experience.

Kind regards

Stephanie

Dear FioC

On behalf of the out of hours emergency dental treatment team many thanks for taking the time to give such positive feedback following your attendance with your young child at the clinic on Easter Monday.

I was sorry to hear that your child was experiencing painful toothache and realise how distressing this would have been for you both.

It was however great to hear that your call to NHS24 was responded to promptly with a referral to the emergency dental treatment centre at Glasgow Dental Hospital.

I am delighted that you were impressed by the dental team's care and professionalism, in particular, the dentist, Paul and the nurse, Karen. I will ensure this is shared with Paul, Karen and the dental team.

It's always very much appreciated by the team to receive such positive feedback.

I do hope your child is now fully recovered.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment on our service.

With Best Wishes

Julie

Update posted by FioC (a parent/guardian)

Thanks Julie. Sadly not recovered yet as it turned out it was severe sinusitis which led to orbital abscess and he still in hospital on IVs. Perhaps you could pass this on to the team for their interest. Thanks.
