This was the second time that I went to the clinic at the cottage hospital rather than the GP surgery and it was a great improvement on the first time.
The main problem last year was that I shared the room with an elderly patient who was deaf and there for some kind of hearing check. There was a curtain but the patient's nurse had to speak loudly which meant they had no privacy and I found it hard to maintain the calm demeanour needed for a BP check.
This year no one shared the room but the nurse said that it is still shared on certain days. I think this is completely unacceptable.
Another change for the worse is that lifestyle questions and discussion are no longer included in the consultation.
The nurse on this occasion was friendly and efficient but I preferred the previous system where you saw the practice nurse who knew you and was more familiar with your medical history.
Contact between GPs, practice nurses and patients seems to be diminishing with a loss of personal care and attention we once enjoyed.
