"Warm, kind, caring, relaxed and professional"

About: Harris Memorial Surgery Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I did an online GP consultation following a vaginal bleed, Harris Memorial surgery rang me within 24 hours & arranged for me to see my GP, Dr White, within 7 days. My GP examined me & reassured me, she thought all was well but would refer me, given my history, to gynaecology.

I received an urgent appointment for a scan within 7 days. At the NHS clinic at Trevissome the two health professional were kind, warm, friendly and gentle and the environment was clean and comfortable. I felt I was treated in a way that maintained my dignity  and I liked that they  dim the lights during the procedure which made me feel relaxed. I then received an appointment for a Hysteroscopy at RCH Treliske,

The receptionist was so warm and friendly and staff in the vicinity were engaging and kind. I was the last procedure of the day and the clinic was running late and staff were really helpful and apologetic.

The Nurse that escorted me to the clinic room and stayed with me was Chris, she was so supportive and kind, friendly & chatty which relaxed me. I did feel pain & was offered gas and air. Chris helped me breath through the pain, this was particularly helpful, having someone count and breath with me, as I really didn’t want gas and air . The other 3 nurses were all so lovely too. They were all so warm, kind, caring, relaxed and professional.

The Consultant, Alex, couldn’t have been kinder, gentler or more compassionate, she explained things clearly and gave me time to ask questions. She was very professional in a reassuring way, she was just lovely.

I had previously had a hysteroscopy and in this instance I wasn’t expecting them to find anything despite having been feeling something wasn’t quite right. They explained everything showed me the Fibroid/ polyps on the screen explained everything step by step and checked in on me constantly.

It was very painful and I struggled a couple of times but they were very supportive and I didn’t feel under pressure to use the gas and air which was good.

The environment was clean, uncluttered and laid out in a way that I didn’t feel exposed or vulnerable. The lighting was adjusted too, which made me feel less exposed and I felt my dignity was very much protected.

Following removal and insertion of a Mirena, which I had consented to prior to the procedure, I was given support, water, items to tidy myself & take away and plenty of time to dress. Both the nurse and consultant spoke to me once I’d dressed and checked I was ok ,giving me written and verbal information on my procedures, IUD and where & who to contact if there were any problems.

I had minimal discomfort in the days that followed and didn’t need painkiller after 24 hours following the procedure
