I waited over 9 months for my appointment with gynaecology. I was given a likely diagnosis prior to my appointment from my GP. I researched the condition and took action to actively help the condition by making lifestyle changes and trying recommended medications prescribed by my GP.
My hope for the appointment was that the specialist reviewing my case would provide additional support and follow up.
During my short, 10-minute appointment, the doctor failed to take a history of my condition and instead spoke at me. The doctor was very cold, uncaring and unsympathetic to the impact my condition was having on me both physically and mentally.
I was given two very limited treatment options with no real explanation of the aetiology of the condition and signposted back to my GP for my symptom management and support.
I strongly feel that the painful 9-month wait for this appointment was for nothing. I feel that I am left on my own to blindly manage this condition and have truly lost faith in the health service.
