"It’s changed my outlook on life"

About: Finneston House / Mental Health Psychiatry Outpatients Home Treatment Teams / Downpatrick Mental Health Community Teams / Newcastle South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust / Condition Management Programme

(as a service user),

My story has been my story for most of my life.  I’ve had some good times and some bad times. And some really bad times.  I have been on anti depressants now for as long as I can remember.  I’ve had bouts of bad depression and bad anxiety all of my life. Or at least it feels that way.

My more recent story has been the last couple of years. From when I had Covid the first time round my mental health just got lower and lower. It was effecting every part of my life. It actually just felt like I was existing and not living.  By the time I reached out to any services, I felt like I had completely broke.  I just wanted to end my life.  So when I finally broke and made contact I was in a sorry state. I wasn’t allowed to be alone or be left alone with my child for fear I’d do something to myself while he was in my care.

I would never have hurt him. Never.

So at this point I was brought under the care of home treatment. I was also introduced to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and was willing to give things a go.

Ann has been nothing short of amazing in my case. She has been teaching me a different way to think. A way for me to understand how I’m feeling and why I’m feeling it. And more importantly how to address these thoughts and work my way through them.

I had my last session today and I really feel more confident about my future.  I am not only properly medicated for what’s been happening, but I have now the tools at my disposal to help me deal with anything that comes before me.

Even though we are finished with our zoom meetings, I have the things we discussed sent to me after every meeting so if I need to reference something, I have it all at my finger tips.

I really can’t recommend CBT enough to anyone that has been thinking of doing it.

It’s changed my outlook on life.  I don’t know what else to say really except thank you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and experience of the Condition Management Programme and specifically the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy you received from Ann. I am delighted that your outlook on life has changed, you feel more confident about the future, have the tools to deal with what comes and the information to reference when you need to.

You have captured what we aim to do but these positives changes have all been down to you and your active participation and taking what was covered in each session and making the changes in your daily life. I hope you recognize all that you have achieved and wish you well in using the tools and the different perspective and knowledge that you have developed.

Your story will resonant with many people and hopefully encourage them to access support as soon as possible.

Huge thanks for your appreciation for the service provided by Ann. Your Story has been shared with Ann and all the staff within CMP and Home Treatment and everyone is grateful for your sharing and acknowledge of the difference it has made to you.

All the very best for the future

Kind regards

Jane
