"There were many complications after I had surgery"

About: Western General Hospital / Edinburgh Breast Unit

(as a service user),

I was in the Western General Hospital for surgery in September 2023. I had a mastectomy, plus removal of Lymph Nodes.

I was very unwell post operation and after a lengthy period of time I discovered that I had caught two nasty infections while in hospital. Although swabs were taken in early October 2023, it was only in December 2023 that I was told about these.

The results of the swabs were not advised to me and I was not treated for the infections, for over two months. I would not want to go near the place in future. There were many complications after I had surgery, haematoma, seroma, wound opened up and the infections.

The whole outfit needs to be improved. It feels to me that NHS Lothian displayed an arrogant contempt towards me as a patient.
