"Long covid - starting on the road to treatment."

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward B3 Cardiology Clinical Health Psychology / Clinical Health Psychology Post/Long Covid Service Mental Health Community Services / Post Covid Syndrome MDT Clinic

(as a service user),

Tested positive for Covid in October 2021.

From then onward started to experience symptoms of Long Covid. The issues ranged from breathing issues, heart racing, brain fog, fatigue and not being able to sleep. This continued on for a few months and eventually I was referred on to the Long Covid clinic by my GP in mid to late 2022. The November of that year I received a phone call from the long covid clinic. Finally it felt like someone was listening and I was starting on the road to treatment.

Then I took part in the Fatigue Management workshop which I found interesting and informative.

Over the course of the next few month I started on the Long Covid physiotherapy course. I found this course helpful as there was other people in the same situation and I started to feel like I wasn't alone or as isolated with the symptoms. I was disappointed that once that course was finish you where discharged from the service without future check ins or wellness checks.

At the same time I was also referred to clinical health psychology by the Long Covid clinic which was the best thing that could of happened. I had always struggled with other health issues with I had be diagnosed with years previously but my mental health was really struggling at the time of referral. I had lost my aunt and uncle due to Covid in January 2021 and the strain of having to shield due to being vulnerable during the pandemic had really taken a toil. The psychologist I worked with was compassionate and really helped me work through the issues. I was sad when the programme for Long Covid psychology finished because I had found it such a help.

During 2023 I was also diagnosed with a heart condition called sinus tachycardia. The Cardiology department had that diagnosed very quickly for me.
