I have had 2 great experiences with NHS Borders recently - the first started with a 111 call as my daughter had fallen and hurt her wrist. We were quickly called back and booked into a minor injuries appointment at Borders General Hospital. The appointment was on time and we were all done in less than an hr, with a thorough assessment, x-rays and a splint for her wrist. I would definitely recommend calling 111 and waiting at home for this type of injury rather than going to A&E.
The second started with a call to 111 early in the morning as my other daughter had had 2 days of a sore throat and had developed other symptoms and was getting less well. We were advised to see GP and saw Dr Fairley a few hours later. She was really kind and friendly to my poorly little girl, and thoroughly assessed her and prescribed her medicine which had a transformational difference and she was markedly better even after the first 2 doses.
Came home feeling very grateful for living in Scotland - for our accessible and equitable health service - for the staff and the medicines and tests we have. Although the system is at breaking point, these examples are why we need to try and find a way to make it work.
"Great care and service"
