"Ongoing knee pain"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I have nothing but great things to say about the staff in all different departments nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers and the two excellent orthopaedic consultants I have been under the care of.

The system however is wrong and I understand there is a process but after all my investigations and a minor surgery on to my knee I have been told I have to wait another 18 months+ for my right medial uni replacement.

But again thanks to all the helpful compassionate nursing clinicians at University Hospital Ayr .

Thank you for your post and positive comments about the treatment and care you received whilst in University Hospital Ayr.

I am extremely sorry for the length of time your are having to wait for your surgery. The Covid-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the orthopaedic service and the waits for all patients are much longer than we would like.

We are doing everything we can to source additional theatre sessions together with some allocation at the Golden Jubilee Hospital. Regrettably at the moment our waits for some procedures are in the region of 18 months.

Please be re-assured we will attempt to reduce the length of wait where possible to do so. My sincere apologies once again and thank you for taking the time to comment on the aspects of your care which have gone well.

Kind regards

Karen Andrews, General Manager
