"Visitors being allowed in to such a late hour"

About: Maternity care (Ward 31) / Maternity care (Ward 31)

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth at RAH after being induced on ward 31B.  I am a first time mum and overall had a great experience with staff whilst I was in hospital.

However the only complaint I do have is visitors being allowed in to such a late hour while women are going through the induction process.  There were 3 of us being induced in the same room and one patient had multiple visitors in until 10pm which meant I was unable to get to sleep or have a rest of any kind prior to a very accelerated and exhausting labour.  I also feel there was a huge infringement of privacy having visitors chatting away behind curtains/ordering food while you are having intimate examinations done etc and feel that there is no consideration for other patients in the room.  I feel that visitors during this process should be limited to one visitor eg. your birthing partner instead of multiple family members hanging around until 10pm. It just felt really inappropriate.

Thank you magpiekx68 for taking the time to feedback on your care experience at the RAH on the ward.

It is lovely to hear as a first time mum you had a great experience with staff whilst in hospital.

We have recently moved toward person centred visiting and I would be keen to discuss further your experience and how we can make adjustments.

I am sorry to hear this has been your experience. Please feel free to get in contact with me on the information below.

Kindest Regards,

Laura Flynn
