About: Fife Community Services / Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service (RCDS) Queen Margaret Hospital / Radiology

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I attended a GP appointment with some health issues I was having and after various tests my doctor could not get to the bottom of the problem.  These health issues were beginning to make me feel very low and my GP gave me a referral to the hospital for further tests. I had never heard of the RCDS unit and of course the word cancer can be alarming and worrying. I was very apprehensive about what was going to be happening.  I remember very clearly the timescale of events as I was staggered at the speed. My GP made the referral on a Friday. On the following Monday Georgia from the RCDS made contact with me by telephone and booked me in for a CT Scan which was the next day ( Tuesday ).  Can you believe that the very next day, no waiting weeks and weeks.  On Thursday of the same week Georgia was back in touch with my results, which were thankfully all clear.  This all took place from referral to results in less than a week.  I was impressed not only by the speed of the process but the extremely helpful and care given by all the staff.  From that first phone call to the last all the staff kept me informed and answered any questions I had with compassion.  Nothing was too much bother for them.  I can't thank the staff enough for making a potentially worrying time easier by their care and attention.

Dear rcdsal48,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience with the RCDS service. Working in radiology, it is great to hear we were able to get you in for your scan quickly and had your results the same week. I am glad to hear your scan results were all clear.

I will pass on your great feedback to the radiology team, and I wish you all the best with your health going forward.

Many Thanks,

Zoë Maclaughlan

Dear rcdsal48,

Thank you for sharing your experience on care opinion. I’m sorry to hear about the health issues you were facing, but I’m glad to know that your GP took proactive steps by referring you to RCDS for further investigation.

It’s reassuring to hear that Georgia reached out to you arranging a CT scan for the very next day after the referral. The speed with which everything was coordinated, from referral to the scan and then to receiving your results we hope helped to alleviated some of the anxiety you were feeling.

I’m delighted to hear that your results came back clear. The team always strive to be committed to and deliver person centred care through compassion, and willingness to address your concerns.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience.

Kind Regards

Murdina
