"Lack of understanding in care for someone with dementia"

About: Glasgow City Health & Social Care Partnership

(as a relative),

After contacting social work it was agreed my mum need support at home and cares were arranged to visit am and tea time. At 1st the service was to prompt meds. ( My mum has vascular dementia) After a decline in dementia a further needs assessment was carried out with care tasks being updated. There have been multiple issues that I had to address with co-ordinators and management.

Tasks not being carried out; 3 to 5min visits; Lack of important information record keeping; Failures in giving certain medication on specific day; Time waiting on locked meds box and associate procedure to be implemented.

Lack of understanding in care for someone with dementia; Failure to inform family of health concern; Communication issues within own staff team; and most of all Lack of empathy and compassion.

My mum was fortunate to have family member to advocate on her behalf. Sadly not everyone does.

I have now cancelled this service and I'm currently looking for new service provider.

The level of care is very poor and detrimental to some of our most vulnerable elderly in our community. The added stress to family is unacceptable.

Just want to add there was only one young carer who attended that took pride in her job who had empathy and compassion was respectful at all times she carried out her duties well.
