"A great experinece with a fantastic nurse."

About: Public Health Nursing / School Nursing Service Trustwide

(as a parent/guardian),

My little boy had his school nursing primary one assessment today with nurse Alicia.

My son is one of the youngest children in his class and I was apprehensive that he would be able to understand what was expected of him in the assessment, however need not have worried as his nurse was fantastic. He was warmly welcomed and made to feel very important and comfortable from the start.

Each assessment was completed in a fun way, age appropriate for my son and it was clear to me that he understood what was expected of him before commencing each task. This had not been the case a number of years ago when my oldest child had issues with the hearing test, and as an observer at the time I knew that the issue was that he didn’t understand what was being asked of him, so Alicia's approach was very welcome.

During the assessment the questions being asked were very much directed at my son, and he was given lots of time to answer and was praised throughout which definitely helped him to engage fully in what was being asked of him.

As a parent I was afforded the opportunity to ask any questions or raise any concerns I might have and was provided with a written record of the evaluation as well as written information signposting me to really useful resources.

As parents we are incredibly appreciate of this service and really commend such a dedicated and caring nurse. Thank you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful feedback regarding your son's P1 Health appraisal which was completed by Alicia who works in the school nursing team.

It is especially lovely to read of the great rapport Alicia had with your son and how this positively influenced engagement in the assessment and put your son at ease.

We really appreciate you taking the time to get in touch to share your positive comments and I will ensure this is shared with Alicia, her manager and school nursing team.

Best wishes,

Elizabeth
