"I have lost confidence in the practice"

About: General practices in Tayside

(as a service user),

Since having Covid I have been treated like a pariah by the GP service. They don't want to see me. When I first became unwell, I went to the hospital and saw a doctor, who turned out to be the GP at my doctor surgery. This GP began shouting at me saying -do you really want treatment, are you sure you want treatment-. It was really intimidating and rude and has been a culmination of other things that have happened as well.

I've been so ill, it was touch and go and I should have been hospitalised.

It has been an unpleasant, long period of time since I've been ill. I am trying to get another practice, but it seems like they're closing ranks.

It has been extremely embarrassing and intimidating. It feels like a case of go away, they don't know what to do and think that they have done all they can do which is fine, but it's the bad practice that is the issue and people shouldn't have to go through this. I have been vulnerable whilst ill.

I have been told by one doctor that I am -just unfit-..

As a patient, we are not looking at GP's to make things go away, but it makes a difference when the caregiver gives a listening ear. I have lost a lot through this.

I have lost confidence in the practice and I don't want to go near them or contact them for anything.

Dear firehq66

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback about your GP practice. I'm sorry to hear this has been unpleasant for you, and that you have felt intimidated while you have been unwell.

GP practices are unfortunately not part of the Care Opinion subscription in Scotland at this time so I'm afraid your feedback can't be passed on to the practice in this way.

Feedback enables an organisation to reflect, identify areas for improvement and revise any processes as required. As each GP Practice is an independent business, we would recommend that you feedback your experience direct to the practice to enable them to do this. The Practice Manager will be able to provide you with information on how to do this.

I hope your relationship with the practice can be repaired, and that you feel better soon.

With best wishes

Victoria Sullivan

Update posted by firehq66 (a service user)

Whilst I agree that communication is in most cases the way forward. In this case I doubt that it would resolve anything.

This situation has been ongoing for a long time. I have I think, been unjustly tarred with a particular brush. I have, as I alluded, lost all confidence with the practice. This hasn't happened overnight, it took time.

I am finished with the practice, aside from current ongoing prescriptions for pre-existing, long-term conditions. At least until or if I can move elsewhere.

I would add that over a year ago, I suffered what I think was a not so mild event with my heart. This has happened since, 3 or 4 times, not as severe. I approached the practice at the time and was spoken to very sarcastically and I felt they ridiculed me. Very patronising attitude. It has left its mark.

No, I can't see myself going back, ever or communicating with them beyond repeat prescriptions.
