My five-year-old daughter was admitted to the SSU in RBHSC following an acute illness. This was her first hospital stay and she was very apprehensive.
The SSU was bright, spacious and had a calm atmosphere which helped my daughter feel at ease. We were looked after by a lovely team of nurses - Briege, Karen and Katie - over the course of our stay. Staff were attentive, pleasant, professional and supportive.
The registrar (apologies, I can’t recall her name) that completed our check-in during the night had a wonderful bedside manner, very thorough assessment and informative feedback about the plan of care and likely length of stay. She was professional, pragmatic and reassuring.
The consultant, Claire, completed a further assessment the next day; she was also wonderful, very reassuring and put my daughter and I at ease. On our final day, we were reviewed by Dr Christian and he was able to coax a smile out of my daughter during assessment and gave us the good news that we could get home.
Given all of the pressures acute services are under, it is important to acknowledge the hard work that staff are continuing to provide for patients in challenging circumstances. I wish to pass on our thanks for the consistent and quality care we were provided during our stay in what is obviously a busy ward with resilient and cohesive staff. Many thanks to all.
"Resilient and cohesive staff"
