"Lack of compassion from members of staff"

About: Petersfield Hospital

(as the patient),

Called 111 as feeling quite unwell due to a heavy cold that was quickly turning into a chest infection.

After being assessed by a callback from 111, I was given an appointment later that day to attend the urgent care at Petersfield Community Hospital. After waiting 1 and a half hours I was eventually seen by a person who felt most uncaring. Commented on how out of breath I was. Told to sit down and they made me feel like they thought I was lying, that I was possibly imagining my symptoms or confusing them with an inflammatory rib condition I have. Several times I had to say I’ve experienced chest infections before and this is definitely turning into one. Proceeded to make me feel like they thought I was lying until they eventually gave me antibiotics.

The person I met felt to me cold and uncaring. I am visiting Hampshire and not registered with a doctor here. The lack of compassion from the members of staff I encountered was deplorable.

There was no water drinking facilities, the coffee machine had no paper cups and the vending machine was broken. The tv was set at such a high volume that other patients where complaining and the waiting area was a mess. My whole experience was disgusting from start to finish.

Hello Abby

Many thanks for your response, I appreciate that very much. It gave me no pleasure having to write the complaint, but felt it was a must as I feel we are all too quick to let things go and then even quicker to complain and its our own fault for not doing anything about it at the time.

Everyone can have a bad day, absolutely, but this just was an uncaring very abrupt member of staff, and yes that maybe just their manner, but when dealing with unwell people it is unacceptable.

As you stated I'm happy that this complaint will be passed on to the relevant people.

Thank You
