"Not happy at all about his condition"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Neonatal Unit (Special Care Baby Unit)

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby boy was in neonatal HDU as he was 5 weeks early.

I cannot fault at all the nurses in the ICU, they were so helpful, kind, kept us up to date about our child and no question was too hard or a bother.

But when we went to HDU, we came in and the nurse said they were just away to phone but did not know what time we were coming in. I said they can phone me any time. Without my knowledge they put another NG tube in and that was due to the day shift thought he was not feeding. But our boy is a night person so he takes it better at night than in the day due to him being tired. Also they say due to one of his blood sugars being low but every other sugars have been fine. I believe he will feed when he needs a feed but they are pushing every two hr. So they tried 3 hrs, but  if he's not taken 30mls 2hrs, I feel he's not gonna take more every 3 hrs.

Also when we came in we went to get him out for cuddles and underneath his legs was surgical tape, the paper the blood sugar strip would be in and the needle they use to prick him for his sugars. There was a baby grow under his coat with blood all over it and when I said to nurse they said they'd eventually put it all away. Out the baby grow my son was cold.

His sugar that evening kept dropping and the nurse said it might be the machine had not been callibrated by other staff but I feel they should have done this themself.

We feel since coming to HDU we are not getting information and when we ask anything it feels like there is an attitude behind it. Since been in here they haven't kept us up to date.

When we went to leave the nurse again apologised and said she passed this on to the SCN for the night but we just feel this is a cop-out. Myself and my partner was not happy at all about his condition either as had like dry milk on his face and his clothes he had on were dirty also.
