"Parking made us late for appointment"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Outpatients Department

(as the patient),

Had an appointment at Hairmyres Hospital. Arrived at hospital early, couldn’t get car parked in car parking areas. Eventually managed to park car at children’s nursery which meant by the time we got to the clinic we were 15 minutes late.

We didn’t see consultant until two hours later. The reason being was told because we were late by reception. My partner who is 78 years of age and myself 73 years of age ended up in bed for 2 days with sore legs and hips because we had to walk up and down hills to keep the appointment. I explained to the doctor why we were late and the answer was that it was above their pay grade concerning parking.

Dear Maghf83

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback in relation to parking difficulties that impacted on your clinic appointment. I am sorry to read that you were unable to find a parking space, despite arriving early. This clearly had an impact on both yourself and your partner and I apologise that clinic staff did not offer you more understanding and support. My sincere apologies.

We are aware of the parking concerns and will raise this again with planning as it is essential that both patients and staff can park safely and appropriately. I will also share your feedback with outpatients as I would expect staff to empathetic, understanding and supportive of difficulties that are faced in terms of transport and parking.

To understand why you were then so significantly delayed in the clinic, I would require further information. If you would like to contact Patient Affairs on 01355 585325 or PatientAffairs.Hairmyres@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Again thank you again for your feedback. I am sorry that yourself and your partner have been compromised. I hope that we can work towards changes to improve the issues you describe.

Thank you again

Kind regards

Lise
