"So welcoming and made comfortable the moment arrived."

About: Highland Community Services / Breastfeeding Support Service

(as a service user),

I first went to a free session when my daughter was a few months old and I had the most positive experience. So welcoming and made comfortable the moment arrived. I was a very anxious first time mum and found getting out hard. Going to the group was the best thing I did. Fast forward to now, and my daughter is 22months old. And even though we can not get as often with now life so different being at work and commitments we do still try and go. As the support even now is amazing. From still breast feeding and the different questions I have now. To just needing to go to a little group where you feel welcomed and comfortable. I am not ready to not go!

Having these groups I feel I so so important for parents. For the support, the advice and to even make friends. And for children to be in an environment with other children too. Having that professional help of the support workers is so important for families and their children. Having someone to ask questions no matter big or small is a real comfort knowing where you can go to ask.

Having the NHS provide this service is fantastic and the people who run it are compassionate and caring to all that go. I can say this from personal experience. It's been a huge help to myself and my daughter.

Dear LMA23,

Many thanks for taking the time to tell us your breastfeeding story and what a fantastic achievement to be feeding your daughter at 22 months - well done, as this along with work and other commitments, is fantastic.

I am delighted to hear how supported you felt once you had inititially gone to a breastfeeding support group when your wee girl was younger and how you found the infant feeding support workers welcoming, compassionate and caring. I will pass this on to them as they will be really happy that they have met your needs and provided this service in such a kind way.

It is great to hear you are still attending when you can and this highlights how the service we provide has no age cut off, which has been so useful to you. Breastfeeding changes throughout your journey and it is lovely to hear that even now you can get support and advice from the team. As you say the support groups are really a chance for you and your wee girl to meet others and enjoy the social interactions and friendships that they bring.

Thank you again for taking the time to tell your story

Kind regards

Karen Mackay
