I was admitted to Merrivale, via A&E at the back end of Jan 2024. I witnessed the A&E Dept undergoing what could be best described as a challenging time, as was reported in the press. In that time, some 24 hours before going to a ward, I witnessed the staff showing the true colours of the NHS. Professionalism, Compassion and Dedication, and, whilst all the time with smiles on their faces. It was truly an unforgettable experience. Once admitted to Merrivale, that same work ethic was wholly visible on every member of the ward staff. From The porters and housekeepers to the HCAs and Nurses. Nothing seemed to much for them. Requests were dealt with promptly and nothing seemed too much effort for them. My time there, left me with the feeling of their genuine care and interest in my well being. I was treated as if I were an old friend they hadn't seen for many years. Everyone was polite and friendly, and in some respects I was sad to leave. In my time I have met and spoken to many people who will nod their head and be full of small talk just for the sake of it. I met none of those at Derriford, not one! I shall remember my time amongst all the wonderful people in the Hospital, not for the reason I was there in the first place, but for the amazing people that work there. It fills me with pride that there are still people like that in the country and they are in abundance at Derriford. Well done NHS and Thank You and I wish I could thank everyone personally but I just hope this will go some way towards it.
