Last week I had Mohs surgery for two patches of basal cell carcinoma on my face. I have been extremely anxious about what had felt a very invasive and distressing procedure, especially coming after a series of cancers, and with a backdrop for me of difficult trauma from other chapters of my life. I feel such immense gratitude for the dedicated dermatology team in this instance and the wider department in general (because I have needed their help before, and ongoing). I was treated with extraordinary kindness in advance and on the day, and I know I received the very best care. Having worked previously in developing countries I am acutely aware of the privilege to have such treatment. The surgeon was so expert and other team members so supportive, I was nicely sedated to manage, the cancer is out and I have been stitched up incredibly neatly. I feel huge relief and great gratitude. The East Kent Hospitals have cared for me so well over the years. I never take this for granted. I feel we have amazing medical staff, facilities and resources in this part of the country. Thank you to everyone so very much.
