"Sudden cardiac arrest. Care and treatment post incident"

About: Cardiology / Arrhythmia Nurses Cardiology / Cardiac Physiology Cardiology / Cardiac Rehabilitation Ninewells Hospital / Cardiology Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I had a sudden cardiac arrest whilst playing football (early 30s).

I was given CPR and shocked by a defibrillator three times to bring me back on the park. I was then treated as paramedics arrived on scene and then taken to Ninewells hospital and cared for in ward 21 Cardiac Care Unit (CCU).

I received fantastic care for my stay in ward 21 and I could not praise the staff enough. It was a traumatic and life changing event but I feel confident I can return to normality. I gained that confidence from the staff and care I received in ward 21.
