"She is truly devoted to her job"

About: Highland Community Services / Breastfeeding Support Service

(as a parent/guardian),

After my baby boy was born I have been contacted by lactation specialist Lana from Alness/Invergordon branch who provided exceptional and friendly support to us.

I have been struggling with the new life transition into being a mum as my boy was born as a tiny baby and struggled to gain weight. He also struggled with sleeping and he cried a lot so there was a concern for being a colic baby.

Lana has done an assessment and after a few observations she referred us to a tongue clinic for a tongue tie. This helped and improved the quality of our son's feeding.

Lana hosts breastfeeding meetings for mums to meet and provides support to mums and babies. She is truly devoted to her job and encouraging breastfeeding. I only wish there was more midwifes and specialists like Lana all across the Highlands to ensure mothers in all rural areas that they can breastfeed successfully because the support is needed.

Dear Monika246,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy and thank you for taking the time to tell us your story.

Breastfeeding journies can be complicated and you certainly sound as though you had a challenging start, with weight concerns, sleep and a baby who cried lots. It is wonderful to have Lana as part of our team and I am so happy to read how she supported you being seen to snip your baby's tongue tie.

It is really nice to hear how you felt Lana was exceptional, friendly and devoted to her job and she certainly is a pivotal part of our team and I will pass this on to her as she will be delighted to know that she supported you.

I am glad that you find the support group a good resource and we really take on your point about having more infant feeding support workers to ensure this service is equitable and I will keep on highlighting this to my management.

Thank you again for telling us about your breastfeeding journey

Kind regards

Karen Mackay
