After Radiotherapy and surgery, I was referred to Shauna - Occupational Therapist at the North West Cancer Centre.
The help I have received from Shauna has been amazing, and the time that she takes to listen and advise is a godsend.
Having finished treatment for breast cancer, I feel that my support from elsewhere was non-existent. The O.T Shauna has been my only contact for advise, regarding cancer fatigue, anxiety, mood, dietary advise and help with managing sleep or the lack of it. Her approach has been very patient centred and holistic, helping me to build skills to manage my new way of living, and manage the different needs that I now have.
I have been given, aids to help manage mobility and other physical difficulties, and Shauna has also been able to signpost me to services I would otherwise not have known about.
My appointment usually lasts around an hour, and I feel this is minimal given the amount that is needed to be discussed or that I need help with, yet I’m fully aware there are people with greater needs or difficulties that could benefit form an even longer session than me.
I believe it would be of greater benefit to have more frequent or longer OT appointments, as I like many Cancer patients, have an ever changing journey to recovery.
I can’t express enough how much of an essential service this has been and still is for me, so thank you!
