"Care that goes beyond 'breastfeeding support'"

About: Highland Community Services / Breastfeeding Support Service

(as a service user),

Almost a year ago I've had my second child and started my second breastfeeding journey. When I had my first child, we had a very rocky start with breastfeeding and I was incredibly grateful for the amazing support we get from Lana in Invergordon! I kept feeding him until he self-weaned when I was pregnant again and felt very supported the whole way.

Having done it already and feeling very confident about breastfeeding, I didn't have many issues with my daughter. But I struggled mentally with the load of taking care of two small people and dividing my attention. Even though the feeding went fine, Lana made sure we were okay and always checked in with us. Sometimes you can be slightly overlooked when you have your second child and are supposed to know what you're doing..

I have seen her support so many other women and parents as well and imagine many people are very grateful for her help! She made me feel better and most importantly understood!

Dear Sparrow11,

Many thanks for taking the time to tell us your story especially when you have 2 wee ones. As you have said it is a very busy time in your life and we really appreciate you getting in touch with us.

It is really wonderful to hear that you breastfed your wee boy for so long with the support from Lana and how you have highlighted that the posts of infant feeding support workers are much more than just feeding. It is great to learn that Lana supported you even though your breastfeeding journey was fine with your wee girl, and that she checked in and understood your needs at that time. I will pass this on to Lana who will be absolutely delighted to read your story and how she had helped.

Being a second time mum can bring so many additional problems and it is true that sometimes these can be overlooked and I am glad that Lana was there to support you when you were struggling mentally and I hope things have improved for you.

Thank you again

Kind regards

Karen Mackay
