At pre-assessment clinic in Perth Royal Infirmary for minor operation I was found to have previously unknown and asymptomatic atrial fibrillation. They indicated that they would let general practice know of finding. Practice phoned me at 6pm the same day and arranged further ECG and GP appointment for the following morning. ECG at practice did not show any abnormality. GP downloaded hospital ECG and confirmed it did show atrial fibrillation and confirmed paroxysmal fibrillation. Condition was discussed and treatment agreed with anticoagulant and follow up appointment for 2 weeks. Prescription filled by chemist that morning. From initial finding of fibrillation to starting treatment took less than 24 hours.
Excellent streamlined and integrated care from all participants showing it can be done. Well done and thanks to all concerned.
